We used to take the trip to Gibraltar right after Easter, but we had to move it to an earlier date because in April other students were travelling to the Classical Theatre Festival in Mérida or had just come back from skiing in Sierra Nevada. November seemed a good time of the year: no hard exams in sight and no other activity around. What could turn out badly… but the weather?
So far we had been lucky enough. Today has been a rainy day, we must agree on that. However, it hasn’t rained cats and dogs but just at the end of the day, when we were waiting for the bus to take us back to Arroyo. There have been spells of rain during the day but on the whole, we have been able to enjoy that part of Great Britain that is so close to us.
Something new this year, as well, has been the “walking tour”. We have visited most historical landmarks in the city, along with the teachers’ explanations, at times difficult to reach the last students in the large group, holding umbrellas. We have even witnessed the change of the guard in front of the Governor’s residence. Moving 106 students is no easy job, but they have behaved themselves, as Cerro students usually do when out of school.
We are looking forward to next November, when we expect the weather to allow a picture of the whole group: we haven’t managed to take one this year.

Antes íbamos a Gibraltar justo después de Semana Santa, pero tuvimos que cambiar la fecha porque en abril algunos alumnos tenían el viaje al festival de Teatro Clásico de Mérida, o acababan de volver de esquiar en Sierra Nevada. Noviembre parecía una buena opción, sin grandes exámenes cerca y sin otras actividades por ahí. ¿Qué podía salir mal? El tiempo, por supuesto.
Hasta ahora habíamos tenido suerte. Hoy ha llovido, hay que admitirlo. Sin embargo, no ha caído un buen chaparrón en ningún momento salvo ya cuando estábamos esperando que nos recogiera el autobús después de pasar la aduana, y nos ha pillado a cubierto, menos mal. Ha habido chubascos, pero hemos podido cerrar el paraguas durante bastante tiempo a lo largo del día, lo que nos ha permitido disfrutar de ese trozo de Gran Bretaña que tenemos tan cerca.
Una novedad de este año, también, ha sido que todos en grupo hemos hecho una visita a pie por los sitios más destacados del Peñón, con explicaciones de los profesores, a veces con dificultad para llegar a los alumnos que estaban más alejados, con los paraguas abiertos. Hasta estábamos delante de la residencia del Gobernador justo cuando se ha producido el cambio de la guardia, que hemos visto en primera fila. Han ido 106 niños, así que movernos todos a la vez no era tarea fácil. Los alumnos del Cerro se portan muy bien cuando salen de excursión, y hoy no ha sido una excepción.
Ya estamos pensando en el viaje del curso que viene y esperamos que en esa ocasión el tiempo sí nos permita hacernos la foto de grupo: este año no ha sido posible.
